Data Logger for USFD

Objective:

• To log the details of flaws detected by the USFD (single or double) rail tester with respect to the physical location & time of test.
• Logged data can be uploaded into PC for generating reports.
• It should meet the requirements as per RDSO specification No M & C/NDT/115/2000 Rev1 (May 2004).

Block Diagram

Requirement:

• The Ultrasonic rail tester ‘SRT/DRT ‘(Single rail tester/Double rail tester) machines are used in Indian railway for detecting the flaws in rail.
• The operators while examining the rail using SRT/DRT in field, they tabulate number of fields relevant to the nature of defect encountered during rail testing in their ‘FIELD BOOK’, which tends to dilute their concentration on their actual work.
• Further the analysis of defects observed in field include generation of various reports, which again causes extra burden on them due to manual entry of entire field data in PC.
• As per CRS (Commissioner of Railway Safety) recommendation, automated data capture should be done to give authenticity of testing operations whether they are being done periodically or not. Hence RDSO laid specification for USFD data logger.

System Description

• This Data Logger for SRT/DRT will log defect events into memory card and upload it into PC after field work which reduces burden on operator.
• Data Logger is provided with a user friendly keyboard & LCD for user interface.
• The equipment possess a suitable encoder to measure the distance covered so that the flaw event is logged with respect to the distance at which flaw occurred and the time of occurrence of flaw.
• Data Logger will be provided with a battery (12V 7.2AH VRLA type) & charger for long backup.
• It is equipped with an internal printer by which printouts can be taken in field (Online) itself & documented or print out of data during a selected interval can be obtained (Offline).
• Data can be uploaded to PC & it can be used effectively to generate various MIS and analysis reports.
