The Ultra Sonic Rail Tester ‘SRT/DRT ‘(Single rail tester/Double rail tester) machines are used in Indian railway for detecting the flaws in rail. The operators while examining the rail using SRT/DRT in field, they tabulate number of fields relevant to the nature of defect encountered during rail testing in their ‘FIELD BOOK’. This tends to dilute their concentration on their actual work and productivity. Further the analysis of defects observed in field include generation of various software reports, which again causes extra burden on them due to manual entry of entire field data in PC.

The Data Logger is a microcontroller based device has been designed for SRT/DRT‘(Single rail tester/Double rail tester) machines, can log defect events into memory card and upload it into PC after field work. This reduces burden on operator. This Data Logger is provided with a keyboard to enter the information and details related to the test before going to the work. LCD screen is provided as user interface. The system shall be provided with user friendly keys which will tag all the relevant fields to the logging event just by a button press. The equipment is having suitable encoder to measure the distance covered so that the flaw event is logged with respect to the distance at which flaw occurred and the time of occurrence of flaw. This Data Logger will be compatible with existing SRT/DRT and have facility to produce online printout in field as well.

The datalogger records the status of digital input for every 8 millisecond. This digital input is having a maximum of 8 channel from the USFD machines and 2 channels from Odometer. The Datalogger for USFD conform the RDSO Specification no: M&C/NDT/115/2000.

The uploaded data in to PC from SRT/DRT Data logger which can be used effectively to generate various analysis reports.
